OUR story

The Oxford Scandinavian Society is the natural hub for Scandinavians and other students in Oxford with an interest in the Nordic countries. Since its reform in 2013, the society has experienced one of the fastest growths of members of any society in Oxford. About sixty percent of our members are from the Nordic countries, while the remainder are so called ‘Scan-fans’ from other parts of the world, including England.

Our ambition is to provide a forum for Scandinavians and non-Scandinavians alike to meet both informally and professionally. We especially aim to arrange events of a Scandinavian nature, ranging from themed dinners to celebration of national holidays. These events have been in very high demand. We regularly host distinguished guests and speakers at our events, including former Swedish prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, former Swedish minister of migration Tobias Billsström, along with ambassadors from all the Scandinavian countries.
